LANGHORNE (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's tennis team opened up the 2015-16 campaign with a 5-4 victory at Cairn University on Saturday.
The Aggies and Highlanders split the six singles matches. Sophomore
Natalie Hoffman (third singles), freshman
Alexandra Vaccaro (fifth singles) and senior
Magen Moore (sixth singles) all secured wins. Hoffman beat out senior Lauren Caruso, 6-4, 7-5 while Vaccaro had a 6-4, 6-0 decision over freshman Kara Williams. Moore did not give up a game in a 6-0, 6-0 victory against freshman Ricki White.
Senior
Jessica Oszvart fell at first singles to sophomore Rebecca Graber, 6-3, 6-3. Sophomore
Melanie Mayhew dropped her match at second singles to freshman Julia Derus, 6-2, 6-1 and sophomore
Tess Hansler suffered a 6-3, 6-2 defeat at fourth singles to junior Sara Keating.
DelVal secured the win with two victories at doubles. Hoffman and Hansler combined to beat Caruso and Keating at second doubles, 9-7 and sophomore
Laken Henry and Vaccaro won at third doubles against Williams and White, 8-1. Oszvart and Mayhew were defeated by Graber and Derus at first doubles, 8-3.
The Aggies return to the court on Saturday, September 12 when they visit Moravian College (12:00 p.m.).
