Box Score HARRISBURG (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's soccer team opened its 2015 season by notching a 2-1, non-conference victory at Penn State Harrisburg on Tuesday.
The Aggies, who qualified for the Freedom Conference (now Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom) playoffs a season ago, scored the first goal of the game with just 4:10 left in the first half. Senior
Mary Taylor sent a pass over to
Karla Keler and the junior blasted a 25-yard shot over the keeper and into the top of the net.
The Nittany Lions evened things up just 3:36 into the second half as Kristen Stark scored off a Fay Ansary assist. It remained tied for nearly 22 minutes until DelVal freshman
Samantha Greim weaved her way through midfield and put a pass behind the defense to give fellow rookie
Starr Sargent-Boone a breakaway. Sargent-Boone dribbled in and slipped a left-footed shot past the outstretched keeper with eventual game-winner.
DelVal held a 22-19 advantage in shots, including a 15-9 edge in the decisive second half. Senior
Brenna Coll's first game in net was a successful one as the former basketball player and two-time all-conference honoree made nine saves, including six stops in the opening half. Samantha Kutcher had 11 saves for Penn State Harrisburg.
The Aggies will head to Oneonta, New York this weekend for the Mayor's Cup Tournament. They will take on SUNY Oneonta on Saturday and follow with a contest against Hartwick College on Sunday.
