Â
One of the top receivers in Delaware Valley history, Gear was a three-time all-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) honoree and a two-time team Most Valuable Player. He graduated as the school's all-time leader in receptions (194), yards (3,118) and touchdowns (31). Gear's career touchdown record still stands while he now ranks second in the other two categories.
Â
Gear truly shined in his last two seasons, the first in 2001with current head coach
Duke Greco at quarterback and the following year when all-time passing leader Adam Knoblauch was a freshman. In '01, Gear set single-season marks with 74 catches for 1,127 yards and 12 touchdowns (touchdown figure currently ranks second while reception and yardage totals ranks third). He followed in 2002 with 57 grabs (sixth) for 973 yards (seventh) and 11 trips to the end zone (third). Gear is tied for the single-game mark for catches with 11 against FDU-Madison in 2001. His 220 yards against Albright in 2002 ranks fourth on the single-game list.
Â
Erby was teammates with Gear in 2001 and 2002 and then played a vital role in the program's remarkable turnaround the next two years. After posting a 2-8 record in '02, the Aggies went 9-2 in 2003 and captured the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southeast Bowl title. Then as a senior, Erby and his teammates went a perfect 10-0 in the regular season to capture the program's first outright MAC title and NCAA playoff bid, the first Delaware Valley team to reach the NCAAs in a team-qualifying sport. The squad went all the way to the quarterfinals, finishing with a 12-1 mark.
Â
Erby was the centerpiece of the defense from his middle linebacker position. He led the team in tackles all four years and graduated as the team's all-time leader with 367 stops – a record that still stands a decade later. In '03, he had 96 tackles and 2.5 sacks. One year later, Erby was the MAC Defensive Player of the Year and a
d3football.com Third Team All-American thanks to 89 tackles and four sacks for a unit that permitted just 19.5 points and 290.9 yards per game.
Â
A two-time all-Freedom Conference honoree and a 2005
d3hoops.com all-region pick, Golden helped the Aggie women's basketball team reach the Freedom playoffs on two occasions, including the 2001-02 squad that reached the conference championship game for the first time in program history.
Â
That championship game appearance came in Golden's freshman season and she shined in the contest, coming off the bench to notch 11 points and 13 rebounds in a nine-point loss at The University of Scranton. That was a preview of things to come as Golden went on to graduate as the program's all-time leader in rebounds (984) – it still is the record today - and she holds three of the top 10 single-season rebounding marks. She broke the record for blocked shots in both a season (71) and a career (201) and both total are now second on the list. Golden also scored 1,257 points in her standout career which is ninth on the current charts.
Â
Rich, who works at the University's Dining Hall, has become a fixture at numerous Delaware Valley athletic events. Evans, Kilpatrick, Marterella and Richard have each worked in the athletic department since they arrived on campus four years ago and have gone above and beyond their student employment duties.
Â
The Delaware Valley University Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 1969 to honor former outstanding student-athletes who graduated from The National Farm School, National Agricultural College, Delaware Valley College and Delaware Valley University. This year's class raises the number of members to 119.
