Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team failed to score in the third quarter and fell to visiting Freedom Conference rival DeSales University, 12-8, in the final contest of its inaugural season.
The Aggies concluded the 2015 campaign with a 5-8 overall record and a 1-5 mark in league play while the Bulldogs improved to 5-8 and 2-4.
Delaware Valley got on the board first in this one when
Nick DiMinno scored four minutes into the contest. The lead was short-lived as DeSales responded less than two minutes later with an unassisted tally from Nate Blevins to tie the game at 1-1. The Bulldogs added one more before the quarter expired to take their first lead heading into the second.
The Aggies were able to tie the contest just 20 seconds into the stanza when DiMinno found
Seth Clauser for his team-leading 20
th tally of the year. The two teams traded goals for the remainder of the first half until the halftime whistle blew and the score was knotted at 5-5.
Alex McKenzie put the offense on his back during that stretch in which he scored three straight for the Aggies with DiMinno picking up his second assist of the afternoon on the third tally.
In the third quarter Delaware Valley's offense went silent and it was outscored, 3-0, in the stanza despite outshooting DeSales, 6-5, including four shots on cage. The Bulldogs got goals from Joe Neggia, Justin Wilson and Ryan Rowse to take the 8-5 lead into the final frame.
In the fourth quarter, DeSales remained hot, scoring the first three goals to extend its largest lead of the day to 11-5 with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation. The Aggies bid for a comeback came in the form of three goals in a minute and a half.
Seth Clauser got the first two to complete his hat trick and
Riley Kratzke notched his ninth of the season to pull Delaware Valley to within three, 11-8, with just under two minutes to play in regulation.
However, Ryan Loughlin added a tally with 1:19 left for the Bulldogs to cap the scoring as the first Delaware Valley season came to an end.
For the Aggies, Clauser and McKenzie each found the back of the net three times while DiMinno also tallied three points on a goal and two assists.
Danny Smith paced the defense with nine ground balls, four caused turnovers and one assist to go with seven faceoff wins.
Jacob Tomasik made nine saves in goal.
DeSales had seven different players score in the game, led by Neggia who tallied three times and picked up one assist for a game-high four points. Matt Warnken got the win in net and made 13 stops.
