BRYN ATHYN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's tennis team picked up its first win in program history as the Aggies swept the doubles competition and took five of the six singles spots for an 8-1 win at Bryn Athyn College.
Delaware Valley, in its inaugural season, improved to 1-11 on the season while the Lions fell to 1-9. The two teams will meet again on Thursday, this time on the Aggie new home courts.
Delaware Valley received straight-set victories in singles play from
Melanie Mayhew,
Natalie Hoffman,
Tess Hansler and
Laken Henry. Mayhew defeated Sydney Elder, 6-1 and 6-0 at second singles while Hoffman and Hansler notched the same scores at third and fourth singles over Tori Hallstrom and Natalie Mangoue. Henry did not lose a game in a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Alexis Kolb at number six singles.
Emilyann Maialetti added a fifth win at singles and it was in the fifth spot as split sets with Kelsey Kowalick, 6-1 and 2-6 before taking the third set by a 10-6 score.
Jessica Oszvart battled back at number one singles and forced a third set thanks to a 6-3 decision in the second. However, Bryn Athyn's Nicole Rogan took the third by a 10-6 score.
It was all Aggies in doubles play starting with Oszvart and Mayhew at the top spot as they posted an 8-3 triumph over Rogan and Elder. Hoffman and Hansler easily dispatched Hallstrom and Catherine Kirk, 8-1, at second doubles, while Maialetti and Henry posted an 8-2 triumph over Kowalick and Eden Zecher at number three doubles.
