Box Score GWYNEED VALLEY (PA) – Gwynedd Mercy University scored the first five goals of the game, en route to an 11-2, non-conference triumph over visiting Delaware Valley College.
The Griffins improved to 5-2 on the season while the Aggies fell to 3-2.
Gwynedd Mercy needed just 27 seconds to get onto the scoreboard as it won the opening faceoff, went down into Delaware Valley territory and scored on a Tony McCraw tally. McCraw found the back of the net two more times in the first quarter and assisted on a Blasé Cesarone goal for a 4-0 Griffins lead.
Cesarone added another tally 37 seconds into the second quarter before the Aggies found the scoring column with 11:04 remaining as
Chris Coyle took a feed from
Alex McKenzie and deposited it for his 10
th goal of the year. Gwynedd Mercy added another late in the half for a 6-1 lead at the break.
Delaware Valley notched the first goal of the second half as
Seth Clauser's unassisted tally, his eighth of the year, came with 8:45 left in the quarter. The Griffins responded with the final five goals of the contest, including two more by McCraw and one from Cesarone for the 11-2 final.
McCraw and Cesarone combined for eight goals and two assists for Gwynedd Mercy, which held a 45-20 advantage in shots and a 34-17 advantage in ground balls.
Deron Dixon had four ground balls while
Danny Smith added three to pace the Aggies.
Jacob Tomasik had a season-high 20 saves in the loss.
