Box Score DALLAS (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's soccer team held No. 13 Misericordia University off the scoreboard in the first half, but the Cougars came away with the 4-1 home triumph in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom opener for both teams.
Misericordia, which is just two seasons removed from a Final Four appearance and went deep in last year's tournament, improved to 9-2 overall while the Aggies' overall mark slipped to 3-7-1.
The Cougars got off 20 shots in the opening 45 minutes, but none of them found the back of the net. A main reason why was DelVal senior goalkeeper
Brenna Coll as she recorded eight saves in the half.
In the second stanza, Devin Simpson scored 3:36 in for a 1-0 Misericordia lead. Ashely Edgell and Kylen Smith followed with tallies for the three-goal lead.
Nikki Dunlap put the Aggies on the board with 6:09 remaining as the senior and returning all-conference honoree picked up an unassisted goal, her fourth of the season. The Cougars' Kristen Murphy ended the scoring with 2:08 left.
Coll finished the evening with 16 saves while three Misericordia goalkeepers combined for two stops.
DelVal returns to action on Wednesday, October 7 when it travels to Susquehanna University for a non-conference game.
