Box Score ST. DAVIDS (PA) – Eastern University secured at least one home game in the upcoming Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Field Hockey Tournament thanks to Tuesday's 5-0 victory over visiting Delaware Valley University.
The Eagles, who just fell out of the national rankings, improved to 12-4 overall and 6-1 in conference play. They are either the number one or two seed in the conference depending on the result from defending champion FDU-Florham's game later in the evening.
For the Aggies, Tuesday's setback drops the squad to 6-11 overall and they end MAC Freedom play with a 2-5 mark. DelVal will wrap up its 2015 campaign with a non-conference game at Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday, October 31.
Eastern scored four times in the first half to take command of the game. Gina Miller picked up the first tally less than 13 minutes in and Megan Bolton followed with a penalty stroke. Jess Kinzler followed with a pair of tallies late in the stanza.
It stayed 4-0 until 12:25 was left in the contest when Kinzler set up Miller for her second goal of the day. The Eagles held a 21-8 advantage in shots, but just 6-5 in the final 35 minutes.
Emily Aldridge stopped 14 shots for DelVal while Nicole Berger and Jennifer O'Neill combined for four saves and the shutout for Eastern.
