Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley College women's soccer team fell to visiting Albright College, 1-0, as the Lions capitalized on a penalty kick early in the second half.
The Aggies fell to 3-5-1 overall while Albright improved its record to 4-5 on the year. Delaware Valley will play one more game next Wednesday before opening Freedom Conference play at Manhattanville College next Saturday.
Shayna Schaeffer made her first collegiate start in goal for the Aggies and was called upon early to keep her team in the game. With 26:56 left on the first half clock ,the Lions played a corner kick into the box where Crissy Terraces sent a header off the crossbar and another header off the rebound that Schaeffer made a great save on to punch it away from the top corner.
Delaware Valley countered with five minutes left in the half when
Nikki Dunlap took a shot from the left side that was destined for the far post until Lions' keeper Jaymee Stepp made a diving save. The ensuing rebound came right to
ZuZu Cooper but Stepp was there to make another save and send the game into halftime scoreless.
Eight minutes into the second half, an Albright forward was pulled down in the box and the Lions earned a penalty kick. Morgan Valera stepped in to take it and she put a low shot past Schaeffer and into the right side of the net.
The Aggies had a chance to tie the game with 17 minutes left in regulation as they had a three-on-two attack that saw
Keri Helmrich feed a pass to Dunlap, whose shot from 18 yards out went well wide.
Schaeffer made 10 saves in her debut for Delaware Valley while Stepp had seven for Albright.
