Box Score CENTER VALLEY (PA) –
Kelsey Zook scored twice, but the Delaware Valley College field hockey team dropped a 4-2 Freedom Conference decision to host DeSales University.
It was the conference opener for each squad as the Aggies fell back to .500 overall with a 5-5 overall mark while the Bulldogs improved to 5-4.
Zook opened the scoring just a minute and nine seconds in as she dribbled into the circle off a restart and ripped a shot to the back of the cage.
However, DeSales answered with three unanswered goals in a 13-minute span to take a 3-1 first half lead. Alexa Beaumont scored first at 8:37 off a rebound and Alyssa Malatesta deflected a shot from Meryah Harding past Aggie keeper
Emily Aldridge just a minute and 40 seconds later for the 2-1 Bulldog advantage. Malatesta then fed a centering pass to Beaumont, who one-timed in for her second tally of the afternoon.
With 6:20 remaining in the opening half, Zook cut the Delaware Valley deficit to one as she took a pass from
Lydia Spakosky and deposited it into the far post off a designed corner play. The Aggies went into the half trailing DeSales,3-2.
Beaumont scored her third of the day off a Jesse Marshall assist 10:27 into the second half to give the Bulldogs the 4-2 lead they would not relinquish.
Aldridge made nine saves for Delaware Valley, which registered 18 shots and 10 corner opportunities in the game. Becky Rasmuson made the start in goal for DeSales and recorded six saves. As a team, the Bulldogs had 17 shots and seven penalty corners.
