Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley College women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 setback to visiting conference opponent FDU-Florham in the final regular-season game of the year.
The loss dropped the Aggies to an overall record of 6-10-2 and 3-3-1 in league play. Their mark in conference games earned them third place (after being picked to finish last in the preseason coaches' poll) and a match-up at nationally-ranked and two-time defending Freedom champion Misericordia University in the conference semifinals. The Cougars took the second seed after tying DeSales University on Friday and the tiebreaker favored the Bulldogs for top seed. The Delaware Valley-Misericordia match-up will take place in Dallas, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, November 5 at 7:00 p.m.
The Devils (7-9-2, 3-4 Freedom) got on the board first in this one when Brittni Calleo let a long shot go from 35 yards out that found its way over the keeper's fingers and under the bar just eight minutes into the contest.
Delaware Valley wasted no time getting it back as
Nikki Dunlap received a through ball in the box from
Shayna Schaeffer and buried a shot into the left corner from 12 yards out just 86 seconds later. The two teams headed into halftime tied at one apiece.
With 28:28 remaining in regulation, FDU-Florham earned a corner opportunity that Calleo sent into the box. Kelly Roche headed it to the far post where Kim Overland had an easy tip-in. That proved to be all the Devils would need as they held off the Aggies for the 2-1 victory.
FDU-Florham had a 13-2 advantage in shots.
Kelly Quinn and
Claudia Winters combined for 10 saves for Delaware Valley.
