DELVAL FIELD HOCKEY ENDS '14 CAMPAIGN WITH 3-2 LOSS TO WILKES

Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Despite a hard fought effort, the Delaware Valley College field hockey team dropped a 3-2, Freedom Conference decision to visiting Wilkes University in its season finale.

The result brought the Aggies' final record for 2014 to 7-13 overall and 2-5 in Freedom play. It was also the final game in the collegiate careers of Delaware Valley seniors Sarah Cvach, Jessica Summers, Lydia Spakosky and Kelsey Zook. The quartet helped the team reach the conference playoffs two times in their careers as well as a run to the ECAC semifinals last season.

For the Lady Colonels, they upped their mark to 10-8 overall and 5-2 in the Freedom. They head into next week's conference tournament as the fourth seed and will travel to top-seeded FDU-Florham for the semifinals on Wednesday, November 5.

Twenty two minutes into the contest, Wilkes had a golden opportunity to take the lead as it earned a penalty stroke and called on Marissa Surdy to face Delaware Valley keeper Emily Aldridge.  Surdy lifted the ball toward the top left of the cage, but Aldridge shuffled over and got her blocker on it to keep the game scoreless.

Nine minutes later, Cecilia Lounsberry maneuvered to the corner in Lady Colonel territory and sent a beautiful pass across the circle that Taylor Pritchett one-timed home for her team-leading 11th tally.  It came with 3:52 left in the half and the Aggies took that 1-0 lead into the intermission.

The two squads went back and forth to open the second half with Wilkes getting off four shots and Delaware Valley ripping three before the Lady Colonels tied the game with 19:58 left on the clock.  Aliya Frankel was credited with her seventh goal of the season as she broke away past the defense and flipped a shot over the keeper. Surdy picked up the assist.

However, the Aggies responded just 18 seconds later Jessica Summers took the ball right from the restart, dribbled through the defense and let a hard shot go from 10 yards out that beat the keeper and put Delaware Valley back on top, 2-1. It was the senior's fifth goal of the year.

Four minutes later, Wilkes tied the game again as this time it was Frankel who found a wide-open Surdy in front for her 13th goal of the year.

With 6:56 remaining, the duo of Frankel and Surdy hooked up one more time as Surdy set-up her teammate for eighth tally of the season and second of the night. Delaware Valley had one shot and four penalty corners the rest of the way, but could get the tying goal as Wilkes escaped with the 3-2 victory.

Aldridge was impressive in goal for the Aggies as she stopped eight shots on 14 attempts (12 on goal) by Wilkes.  Delaware Valley registered nine shots in the contest and held a 12-2 advantage in corners. Alexis Reed made six saves in goal for the Lady Colonels.
