Box Score EDWARDSVILLE (PA) –
Elisha Taney scored with just 52 seconds left in regulation and
Shayna Schaeffer found the back of the net 31 seconds into overtime as visiting Delaware Valley College notched a stunning, 2-1 victory over Wilkes University in a Freedom Conference game.
The win lifted the Aggies to 4-8-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference while the Lady Colonels fell to 8-6 overall and 1-2 in league action.
It appeared as if Micaela Oliverio's goal less than nine minutes into the contest was going to stand for Wilkes in a 1-0 victory. Delaware Valley had managed just three shots in the first half and two in the first 44 minutes of the second. One of those second-half attempts was 10 minutes in when Schaeffer hit the crossbar.
The Aggies pressed at the end and
Karla Keler sent a header to Taney and the sophomore headed the ball into the net for her fourth goal of the season and a 1-1 tie.
In the extra session, Delaware Valley quickly moved down the field and Keler had a shot blocked out of bounds for a corner opportunity. Keler sent a beautiful corner pass to the middle where Schaeffer was waiting. The junior buried the ball into left side for her first tally of the season and the improbable victory.
Wilkes outshot the Aggies, 17-8, and also held a 6-3 advantage in corners. Freshman
Kelly Quinn, who started just her third collegiate game, stopped 11 shots in net for Delaware Valley and notched her first win.
