DELVAL WOMEN'S SOCCER EDGED BY IMMACULATA

Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – A penalty kick midway through the second half proved to be the difference as non-conference visitor Immaculata University edged Delaware Valley, 2-1.

The Mighty Macs picked up their first victory of the season (1-5) while the Aggies dropped to 2-4 with the loss.

Delaware Valley was able to tie the contest just before the end of the first half (4:43) when Mary Taylor lofted a nice through ball into the box to Shayna Schaeffer. Schaeffer was able to control the pass and lift it over the head of the keeper for her first collegiate goal.

It stayed 1-1 until 20:04 was left on the clock as Immaculata earned a penalty kick after a hand ball was called against the Aggies in the box. Rachel Gannon took the shot and converted for, what proved to be, the game-winning goal and her second tally of the year. Delaware Valley fought back for the remainder of the half as they generated seven corner kicks, but it failed to tie the game.

The Mighty Macs' first goal came just nine minutes into the contest when Rachel Lamb put the ball in the open net after Aggies keeper Julie Burnel made a nice save on a shot from Gannon, who earned an assist on the play.

Delaware Valley edged Immaculata in shots, 19-16, and corners, 8-5. Burnell notched nine saves while Meghan McCurnin had seven for the Might Macs.
