Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Host Delaware Valley College and Washington College (Md) battled for 110 minutes and neither squad was able to put the ball in the net as the teams settled for a 0-0 tie.
The Shorewomen (3-4-2) had more opportunities as they held a 22-5 advantage in shots, including a 6-2 edge over the two, 10-minute overtimes. Aggie goalkeeper
Julie Burnell was spectacular in the standstill as she finished the game with 13 saves (four in overtime).
Burnell's first save in the extra sessions came just 1:55 in as she stopped Washington's Heather Smith, who got behind the defense on the left side and had an open look from about 10 yards out. That was the best opportunity for either team in the first overtime.
In the second overtime, Delaware Valley (2-8-1) had the first chance with 6:15 as
Mary Taylor and Shorewomen goalkeeper Melissa Barry raced toward a ball in the box. Taylor got their first by a split-second, but was not able to get much on a shot and Barry pushed it aside for one of her four saves on the day.
Washington had last two golden opportunities with the first being a direct kick just outside the box that was sent over the net. Then with under a minute to go, Patinella broke free on a breakaway. Burnell made the save and the ball rolled to the far post and Patinella got to it and crossed it along the goal line, but nobody was able to put it in. The Shorewomen wound up with a corner kick off the scramble, but Delaware Valley cleared it out of trouble and the game ended.
