Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) --
Julie Burnell stood tall in net for Delaware Valley College as the Aggies battled to a 0-0, double-overtime draw against 2012 Freedom Conference semifinalist Wilkes University.
The tie moved Delaware Valley to 4-9-2 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play. The squad is also unbeaten in its last three games (2-0-1) and four of its last five (2-1-2). The Lady Colonels saw their records go to 7-4-3 overall and 2-0-1 in the Freedom.
Burnell was at the top of her game right from the start as the graduate student (she earned her bachelor's degree in three years and elected to use her final year of eligibility as a grad enrollee) made five of her 16 saves in the opening five minutes of the match. She was also Delaware Valley's best defender on corner opportunities as she punched away any balls that came into the box.
Burnell's best save of the day came with 27:51 remaining in regulation when Katie Hughes streaked down the right side on a breakaway. Hughes' attempt from 15 yards away was turned away by the left hand of the Aggie keeper.
Wilkes had two goals called off due to offside infractions in the 39th and 104th minutes. Delaware Valley's best opportunity came in the second overtime when it earned a corner with two and half minutes remaining. The ball was played into the box, but cleared away by the Lady Colonel defenders.
