DELVAL FIELD HOCKEY DROPS 3-2 OVERTIME DECISION

Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Lindsay Hischak scored her second goal of the game 4:51 into overtime as Misericordia University spoiled Delaware Valley College's Senior Day with a 3-2, Freedom Conference triumph.

The win improved the Cougars to 4-9 overall and 2-1 in league action while the Aggies fell to 8-5 and 2-1. The wild conference play in the early going has five times tied for first in Delaware Valley, Misericordia, DeSales University, FDU-Florham and Manhattanville College. Five-time defending champion Eastern University and Wilkes University are 1-2 while perennial power King's College is at 0-3. Four conference games remain with the top four advancing to the Freedom tournament.

It was Delaware Valley's last Saturday home game of the year and the squad honored seniors Anastassia Bennett, Sandra Edwards, Leah Hawthorn, Maddie Raville before the contest. Things looked for the Aggies as they scored twice in the second half to rally from a 2-0 deficit and saw Edwards stop a penalty stroke with 1:24 remaining to send the game to the extra session.

Delaware Valley had two shots in the opening minute of overtime before Misericordia answered with one at the other end off a corner. Then, Hischak got the ball and used her speed to create a breakaway. She was to the right of the goal and, as a defender started to catch up and Edwards moved to cover the angle, Hischak's shot nicked the pads of the goalie and slowly trickled over the line for the game-winning tally. It was Hischak's 11th goal of the season.

Hischak opened the scoring 15:20 in as a cross from Jenn O'Neill went into the circle and she beat Edwards to the ball for the 1-0 lead. Twelve minutes later, the two combined again, this time a Hischak shot was deflected up and into the cage by O'Neill.

It stayed 2-0 until halftime before the Aggies got on the board 2:44 into the second stanza. Taylor Prichett took a pass in the circle from Stefania Swider and beat goalkeeper Angela Pasquini to the short side for Prichett's team-best 14th goal of the season.

Then less than six minutes later, Leah Hawthorn went down the left side and sent a pass into the box. Swider was down on her knees, but the freshman still managed to one-time it into the goal for her second tally of the year.

Delaware Valley kept the pressure up but could not get the go-ahead goal. Misericordia then controlled the play in the Aggie end for the final 10 minutes of regulation and even had a penalty stroke opportunity in the closing minutes. However, Edwards made a lunging pad save on an Allie Elmes attempt to keep it a tied game. Overtime began and Hishcak's tally ended it for the Cougars.

Delaware Valley had an 18-12 advantage in shots and a 19-13 edge in corners, including 13 corner opportunities in the first half. Edwards finished with eight saves while Pasquini stopped 12 shots for the win.
