DELVAL FIELD HOCKEY OPENS FREEDOM PLAY WITH 2-1 WIN AT MISERICORDIA

DALLAS (PA) – Delaware Valley College opened Freedom Conference play on a winning note as the Aggies erased an early 1-0 deficit and downed host Misericordia University, 2-1.

The win improved Delaware Valley to 3-5 overall and 1-0 in the conference while the Cougars fell to 2-6 and 0-1.

Misericordia jumped ahead just 3:18 into the contest as Hannah Harvey notched an unassisted goal. However, the Aggies tied it up less than four minutes later as a scramble in front of the cage ensued after a corner. Leah Hawthorn pounced on the loose ball and scored her fourth goal of the year.

Delaware Valley used another corner to take a 2-1 lead with 11:55 remaining in the opening half as Rony Jacober deflected home a Kelsey Zook shot for her second tally of the year. Goaltender Sandra Edwards and the Aggie defense took care of the rest for the big road conference win.

Edwards finished with eight saves, including one on a penalty stroke in the first half. Haley Brandt notched five saves for Misericordia.
