DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Mel Sullivan's goal just 82 seconds into overtime lifted Albright College to a 3-2 victory over host Delaware Valley College in a non-conference game.
The Lions (3-2) began the overtime by moving quickly into Aggie territory and forcing a corner. The corner kick was cleared slightly out of the goal box, but Delaware Valley was then called for a foul. Sullivan lined up the free kick just five yards out of the box and she drilled a perfect shot into the top left corner of the net for the game-winning tally. It was her first goal of the season.
After a scoreless first half, Albright notched two goals in a 22-second span early in the second stanza. Jordan Cassidy picked up the assist on both goals as she first sent a crossing pass to Erin Hand and followed with a similar feed to Alex Talbot.
Delaware Valley (2-3) cut Albright's lead in half with 27:07 remaining as
Kara Fecanin sent a through pass to
Mary Taylor for a breakaway. Taylor did not miss as the freshman scored her first collegiate goal. Taylor then tied it up with 16:34 to go as
Marianne Morton gave her a feed on the left side and she put the ball past goalkeeper Jaymee Stepp.
The Lions held advantages of 22-11 in shots and 10-2 in corners.
Julie Burnell registered 12 saves for the Aggies while Stepp finished with six saves at the other end.
