NO. 12 MISERICORDIA DOWNS DELVAL WOMEN'S SOCCER, 5-0

DOYLESTOWN (PA) -- Sam Helmstetter scored three goals while Nicolette Hensel and Laura Roney combined for five assists as 12th-ranked Misericordia University posted a 5-0, Freedom Conference victory over host Delaware Valley College.

The Cougars, who went to the NCAA Division III playoffs last year, improved to 9-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Aggies saw their record fall to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the Freedom.

Helmstetter gave Misericordia the only goal it needed exactly one minute into the game off a feed from Roney. The Cougars then scored two goals in 97-second span late in the first half as Helmstetter struck again and Caitlin Boyle followed with a tally. Hensel assisted on both goals.

Meghan Antrim found the net off a Roney assist just 4:40 into the second stanza for a 4-0 Misericordia advantage. Helmstetter completed her hat trick 70 seconds later off a pass from Hensel. Helmstetter has nine goals on the season.

The Cougars outshot Delaware Valley, 24-4, and held a 12-1 advantage in corners. Maureen Ciccosanti and Caitlin Sweeney each played a half in net and shared the shutout. Julie Burnell was credited with 11 saves for the Aggies.
