DELVAL FIELD HOCKEY DOWNS MANHATTANVILLE, CLINCHES PLAYOFF BERTH

DOYLESTOWN (PA) –  Freshman Taylor Prichett's  goal with just 1:21 remaining lifted Delaware Valley College to a 3-2 victory over visiting Manhattanville College and clinched a Freedom Conference playoff berth for the Aggies.

It marks the third time in the last four years that Delaware Valley (7-9, 4-2 Freedom) has qualified for the conference tournament. And it's a return trip for the three seniors – Sara Culver, Rony Jacober and Kystle Mazza - who were honored before the game. They were part of last year's team that won just three overall games and went 1-6 in the Freedom. Now, what remains to be seen is what seed Delaware Valley will be for the postseason, which begins on Wednesday, October 31.

The Aggies scored the lone goal of the first half as Jessica Summers took a feed from Lydia Spakosky and drilled home her second tally of the season. They then made it 2-0 just five minutes into the second half as Prichett set up Kelsey Zook for the sophomore transfer's sixth goal of the year.

The Valiants (11-6, 3-3) came right back and scored two goals in a span of 4:43 to tie the contest. Kayla Meenan scored both tallies, the first off an assist from Melissa Goncalves and the second off a feed from Amanda DeChent. It the lone point for DeChent, who entered the game already holding the conference's single-season scoring record with 65 points.

The game appeared headed to overtime, which would've been the second straight Saturday for Delaware Valley, but Prichett had other plans. Maddie Raville sent a cross to the circle and Prichett pounced on it and put it in the cage for her fourth goal of the year (second game-winner). Eighty-one seconds later, the Aggies had the win and playoff spot.

Delaware Valley outshot Manhattanville, 23-11, while both teams had nine corner opportunities. Sandra Edwards stopped six shots in the win while the Valiants' Amy Hilton was credited with 14 saves.
