DELVAL FIELD HOCKEY FALLS IN OVERTIME TO WILKES

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Lexi Thompson's second goal of the game with 54.9 seconds remaining in overtime lifted Wilkes University to a 2-1 victory over host Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference game.

The Aggies entered the contest in sole possession of first place in the Freedom Conference as FDU-Florham fell to King's on Friday night. However, the loss dropped them to a five-way tie for the top spot as their record fell to 6-8 overall and 3-1 in league action. Wilkes improved to 6-7 and 1-3.

With the game seemingly headed to a second overtime, the Lady Colonels brought the ball of their end and carried it down the field. Shelli Worthington a shot from just outside the circle and Thompson was there to deflect it over Delaware Valley goalkeeper Sandra Edwards' shoulder for the game-winner. It was Thompson's fourth goal of the season.

Wilkes opened the scoring with Thompson's tally off an Ashley Hahn assist just 8:08 into the game. The Aggies tied it up with 4:18 to go in the opening half as Taylor Prichett notched her third goal of the year with Leah Hawthorn picking up the assist. It remained a 1-1 contest for the next 53-plus minutes until Thompson's overtime heroics.

Delaware Valley outshot the Lady Colonels, 17-15 and also held a 12-9 advantage in corners. Edwards was credited with nine saves while Alexis Reed made 11 stops and picked up the win.
