DOYLESTOWN (PA) –
Leah Hawthorn scored with 12:13 remaining to lift Delaware Valley College to a 1-0 victory over visiting Albright College in the season opener for both teams.
The Aggies were awarded a penalty corner and, following a long scramble,
Krystle Mazza nudged the ball to Hawthorn. The sophomore, who scored eight goals last season, put in the cage for a 1-0 advantage.
Delaware Valley made that lead thanks to the play of senior goalkeeper
Hollis Hancock. The two-time all-conference honoree had 13 saves on the afternoon, including two on point-blank shots after Hawthorn's tally.
Delaware Valley held a 20-14 edge in shots while the Lions had a 13-6 advantage in corners. Marguerite DeLucas recorded 12 saves in the loss.
