DELVAL PICKS UP CONFERENCE WIN OVER MANHATTANVILLE

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College scored the first two goals of the game and then held on at the end for a 2-1 triumph over defending Freedom Conference champion Manhattanville College.

The win lifted the Aggies to 7-5-2 overall and 3-2 in the conference. With nine points in the Freedom standings (three for a win, one for a tie), the team is now tied with Eastern University (3-1) for fourth place. The top four teams qualify for the conference playoffs. Manhattanville saw its 2011 record fall to 2-14 overall and 1-4 in the Freedom.

Delaware Valley needed just four minutes and 16 seconds to hit the scoreboard as Nicole Huff took a pass from Dana Gentile and put a shot over Valiant goalkeeper Brianna Scapperotti. It was Huff's third goal of the season while Gentile upped her point total to a conference-best 29 (12 goals, 5 assists).

Marianne Morton made it 2-0 early in the second half as she took a pass from Ariel Butera and drilled a shot in the top left corner of the net for her fourth tally of the season.

Manhattanville made things interesting with 8:36 remaining as Morgan Rebollal connected on a free kick from about 25 yards out for her third goal of the year. However, the Valiants could not get the equalizer and the Aggies had the win.

Delaware Valley held advantages of 17-6 in shots and 7-2 in corners. Julie Burnell stopped two shots in the win while Scapperotti had six saves for Manhattanville.
