WILKES-BARRE (PA) – The Delaware Valley College volleyball team registered a milestone win on Wednesday evening as its 3-0 victory at King's College was the first over the perennial Freedom Conference contender in 13 years. Set scores were 25-22, 25-20 and 25-23.
The Aggies improved to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference and did so with its first win over King's (2-5, 0-1) since 1997. The Lady Monarchs have been one of the top programs in the conference in the last decade-plus, including trips to the Freedom playoffs in three of the last four years.
Delaware Valley registered 38 kills in the match, including 15 apiece in the second and third sets. King's managed just 30 kills and had 21 errors compared to 18 by the Aggies.
Senior
Ashley Mikulsky led the way with 10 kills, 19 digs and three service aces while junior
Kaitlyn Olsen added eight kills and three blocks. The freshmen quartet of
Janel Gluch (7 kills, 3 blocks),
Destinee Horning (6 kills, 11 digs),
Jen Keller (7 kills, 18 digs) and
Alyssa Riggins (17 digs) played prominent roles in the victory, as did senior
Amy Scordato who dished out 33 assists.
The Lady Monarchs were led by Emily Kline's 14 kills and three blocks. Kelly Greenway recorded 26 assists in the loss.
