AGGIES FALL IN SECOND OVERTIME AT FDU

MADISON (NJ) – Megan Springmeyer scored the game-tying and winning goals, the latter just one minute into the second overtime, as FDU-Florham registered a 3-2, Freedom Conference victory over visiting Delaware Valley College.

It was the second straight overtime loss for the Aggies (a 3-2 non-conference setback at Widener University on Wednesday), who fell to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in the conference. The Devils also saw their overall mark go to 7-6 while they improved to 2-1 in Freedom action.

FDU-Florham dominated the first overtime as it held a 7-0 advantage in shots. However, all-conference goalkeeper Hollis Hancock swept aside all seven attempts to keep Delaware Valley in the contest. FDU-Florham was then awarded a free shot opportunity in the opening moments of the second extra session and Springmeyer sent the home crowd happy with her fourth goal of the season.

The Aggies got on the scoreboard first as senior Nikki Rogers connected for her fifth goal of the year, an unassisted tally with 16:35 left in the opening half. However, the Devils tied it up seven minutes later on an unassisted goal by Lauren Guenther.

Delaware Valley regained the lead 5:47 into the second stanza as, off a penalty corner, sophomore Rony Jacober notched team-best eighth goal of the season. Senior Katy Provenzale was credited with the assist on the play.

Eight minutes later, FDU-Florham was awarded a penalty stroke. Springmeyer stepped in to take the shot and she beat Hancock to tie it up at 2-2. Springmeyer then scored an even bigger goal in the second overtime for the win.

The Devils finished with advantages of 18-9 in shots and 13-7 in corners. Hancock, a junior, racked up a season-best 14 saves in the setback.
