AGGIES DROP 2-0 DECISION AT ALVERNIA

READING (PA) – Alvernia University notched a pair of first-half goals and it was enough for a 2-0 triumph over visiting Delaware Valley College in a non-conference game.

The win improved the Crusaders to 12-3-4 overall while the Aggies saw their overall mark fall to 5-11-2. However, Delaware Valley is 2-3-1 in the Freedom Conference and the set is stage for Saturday's regular-season finale at Manhattanville College (3-13-1, 3-2-1). If the Aggies win, they qualify for the Freedom playoffs for the second time in the last three years and could get as high as a third seed. A loss or tie keeps Delaware Valley out of the postseason.

Alvernia scored early and late in the opening stanza on Wednesday evening. With just 6:56 off the clock, Amy Mesce found a deflected ball off the Aggie defense, dribbled once and put the ball in the net for her 12th goal of the season. Then with 7:23 to go before the intermission, Katelyn Gill notched an unassisted tally for her second goal of the year.

The Crusaders held advantages of 14-5 in shots and 9-1 in corners. Kirsten Kelley made four saves for the shutout while Liz McQuillan recorded five stops in her first game in net this season for Delaware Valley.
