DELVAL WINS THIRD STRAIGHT WITH 3-0 TRIUMPH OVER WILKES

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College moved into sole possession of third place in the Freedom Conference thanks to a 3-0 victory over visiting Wilkes University on Homecoming.

The win was the third straight for the Aggies as they improved to 10-8 overall and 4-2 in the Freedom. That combined with Misericordia University's 2-0 loss to nationally-ranked Eastern University has Delaware Valley all alone in the third spot with one regular-season game remaining.

The Aggies will host Eastern and win will give them their second straight Freedom playoff berth. If Delaware Valley falls to the two-time defending conference champions, they will need to have either Misericordia (3-3) lose to 0-6 Wilkes University or FDU-Florham (3-3) lose at home to Manhattanville College (2-4) to reach the postseason. A three-way tie could also come down to goal differential and Delaware Valley could qualify if they lost by just one or two goals to Eastern.

Freshman Leah Hawthorn, who scored in the second overtime to win at Misericordia earlier, in the week, found the goal twice in the first half on Saturday. She opened the scoring 15:18 into the contest off an assist from Holly Rich, and connected with 1:24 to go in the stanza off an assist from Danni Heller. Hawthorn now has eight goals on the season.

Katy Provenzale picked up the lone tally in the second half off an assist from Mindy Miniconzi. That was more than enough as the defense allowed just seven shots. All seven were on goal and Hollis Hancock swept them aside for her fifth solo shutout.
