WILKES-BARRE (PA) –
Dana Gentile scored two goals and assisted on another to lead Delaware Valley College to a 3-0 victory over host King's College in a Freedom Conference game.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Aggies as they improved to 4-8-1 overall and 1-1 in the Freedom. The Lady Monarchs fell to 1-12 overall, including an 0-2 mark in league action.
Gentile put Delaware Valley on the board just under the 19-minute mark of the contest as the junior beat a defender and then placed a shot just inside the left post. It remained a 1-0 contest for the next 46 minutes until Gentile booted the ball into the same area for another unassisted tally.
Three minutes later, Gentile fed a pass to
Marianne Morton and the freshman beat King's goalkeeper Melissa D'Aniello for her second goal of the season. The five-point performance by Gentile upped her season total to a team-best 12, including five goals.
Delaware Valley outshot the Lady Monarchs, 18-2, and it also held a 4-1 edge in corners.
Julie Burnell did not have to make a save all afternoon as both of King's shot were wide of the net, but the freshman still picked up the shutout. D'Aniello finished with eight saves for the Lady Monarchs.
