ST. DAVIDS (PA) – Eastern University secured the top seed in the upcoming Freedom Conference playoffs with its 4-1 victory over visiting Delaware Valley College on Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles improved their record to 15-4 overall and a perfect 7-0 in the conference. They will host the fourth seed in a semifinal match-up on Wednesday, November 4.
For the Aggies, the loss dropped them to 10-8 overall and 4-2 in the Freedom. They have already clinched a playoff spot and can still finish anywhere from second to fourth in the standings. They are currently tied with King's College for third place with both a half game behind Wilkes University (4-1). Delaware Valley will wrap up the regular season with a makeup game at Wilkes on Thursday.
Eastern scored the lone goal of the first half as Kelby Bolton connected off an Yvonne Herbster assist just 11:12 into the stanza. The Eagles upped the lead to 2-0 2:56 into the second half as Herbster converted a corner opportunity thanks to a feed by Lindsay Moyer. Seven minutes later, they were awarded a penalty stroke and Bolton beat Aggie goalkeeper
Hollis Hancock for a 3-0 advantage.
Delaware Valley hit the scoreboard with 19:34 remaining as freshman
Rony Jacober notched an unassisted tally. It was her third goal of the season. Eastern finished the scoring with 5:02 to go as Keterina Tellis connected off a Brittany Moyer assist.
The Eagles held advantages of 31-3 in shots and 22-1 in corners. Laura Ressler was credited with one save in the victory. Hancock finished the contest with 16 saves for the Aggies.
