PAVLIK LEADS AGGIES TO 2-1 CONFERENCE WIN OVER FDU-FLORHAM

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Senior midfielder Bethany Pavlik scored two goals to lead the Delaware Valley College field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over visiting FDU-Florham in a crucial Freedom Conference game.

With the win the Aggies, picked to finish sixth out of seven teams in the conference's preseason coaches poll, improved to 9-7 overall and 3-1 in the Freedom. They are now tied with King's College for second place with three games remaining. The top four teams qualify for the conference playoffs, a spot that Aggies are looking to reach for the first time since 2006. FDU-Florham fell to 5-11 overall and 1-3 in league action.

Pavlik, a two-time all-conference player and Delaware Valley second all-time leader in both goals and points, opened the scoring just 4:53 into the contest as she grabbed a loose ball in the circle and notched her 12th goal of the season.

The Devils tied the contest just three minutes and nine seconds later as Victoria Nedo took a pass from Alex DevVito and beat Aggie goalkeeper Hollis Hancock for her first tally of the year.

However, it was Pavlik's time to shine again at the midway point of the half as, off a corner, she took a pass from Mindy Minconzi and blasted a shot into the cage. Pavlik has now recorded 48 goals and a school-record 28 assists for 124 points in her standout career.

Delaware Valley outshot FDU-Florham, 23-5, but it was the final shot of the game by the Devils that nearly sent the contest into overtime. They were awarded a penalty corner as the clock was winding down and then had another opportunity after the horn sounded (games cannot end on a penalty corner). FDU-Florham's Victoria Nedo got an up-close shot from the left side, but Hancock made a sprawling save, an Aggie defender cleared the ball out of the circle and the game was over.

Hancock finished with three saves for the Aggies while Meghan O'Neil was credited with 13 saves for the Devils. Delaware Valley will now host Freedom foe Misericordia University for Senior Day on Wednesday, October 21.
