DELVAL DROPS 3-1 DECISION AT MISERICORDIA

DALLAS (PA) – Sam Helmstter's hat trick lifted Misericordia University to a 3-1 victory over visiting Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference game.

The win was the fourth straight for the Lady Cougars as they improved to 6-9 overall and 3-1 in the Freedom. The Aggies fell to 1-10 and 1-3.

Helmstetter opened the scoring with 18:04 remaining in the opener half as she took a feed from Lauren Payne and deposited her fourth goal of the year. Delaware Valley tied it nine minutes later as sophomore Dana Gentile scored an unassisted goal, her team-best fifth of the season.

However, the second half was all Helmstetter and Misericordia as it outshot the Aggies 12-0 over the 45 minutes. Helmstetter gave her team the lead for good exactly 13 minutes into the stanza as she headed in a corner kick from Jenn Brucker. Helmstetter then completed the hat trick with an unassisted tally with 27:37 to go.

Misericordia finished with advantages of 21-3 in shots and 5-1 in corners. Elizabeth McQuillian stopped nine shots in the loss.
