DOYLESTOWN (PA) –
Dana Gentile's breakaway goal just 4:33 into the first overtime lifted Delaware Valley College to its first win of the season, a 3-2 triumph over visiting King's College in a Freedom Conference game.
The Aggies improved their mark to 1-8 overall and 1-1 in league action while the Lady Monarchs fell to 4-9 and 0-2.
In the extra session, Gentile received the ball and went around a defender for the breakaway attempt. The sophomore then maneuvered around King's goalkeeper Rachael Donatiello and slid the ball into the empty note for her second goal of the game and fourth of the season.
After scoreless first half, Delaware Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the early stages of the second stanza.
Caitlin McQueen scored her first goal of the season off a feed from
Ashley Gagliano 5:40 into the half and Gentile followed 11 minutes later with
Sam Loeber credited with the assist.
However, the Lady Monarchs fought back and got on the board three minutes after Gentile's tally as Becky Chateaneuf scored off an assist by Katie Mangan. Jade Zungia then tied it up with an unassisted goal with 14:04 left in regulation. The game went to overtime where Gentile's heroics gave the Aggies the victory.
Delaware Valley held a slim, 13-12 advantage in shots. Elizabeth McQuillan made seven saves for her first collegiate victory. Donatiello had five stops for King's.
