GWYNEDD VALLEY (PA) – Christine Hammitt scored her second goal of the game with 3:58 remaining to lift Gwynedd-Mercy College to a wild, 5-4 victory over visiting Delaware Valley College in a non-conference game.
The Griffins upped their overall record to 7-3 while the Aggies fell to 6-5. Delaware Valley will take its 1-0 Freedom Conference record into Saturday's game at Manhattanville College.
The Aggies tied the contest on three separate occasions, including with 4:39 to go as, on a penalty corner,
Mindy Miniconzi scored off a feed from
Rony Jacober. However, Gwynedd-Mercy came right back just 41 seconds and scored the game-winner as Hammitt connected off a pass from Kayla Farrow.
The Griffins opened a 2-0 lead less than four minutes into the game thanks to tallies by Nicole Tourdot and Kelsey Deveney. Delaware Valley cut its deficit in half with 9:56 gone off the clock as it was awarded a penalty stroke and
Bethany Pavlik converted the opportunity. The Aggies then tied it up with 11:26 left before halftime as
Danielle Heyne set up a goal by
Marissa Di Miero.
Hammitt's first goal of the game gave the lead back to Gwynedd-Mercy exactly five minutes in the second half. The wild, back and forth action continued as Heyne scored off an assist from
Nikki Rogers just 110 seconds later.
Twenty minutes went by before Gwynedd-Mercy's Dottie O'Neil scored for a 4-3 advantage. That set the stage for the final five minutes, Miniconi's tying tally for the Aggies and Hammitt's game-winner for the Griffins.
