AGGIES DROP 3-2 HEARTBREAKER TO DEFENDING CONFERENCE CHAMPION KING'S

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Shawna Walp scored with just 5:28 remaining as defending Freedom Conference champion King's College squeaked out a 3-2 victory over host Delaware Valley College in the league opener for both teams.

The Lady Monarchs improved to 9-1 overall with their loss coming at fourth-ranked Messiah College. The Aggies fell to 7-3.

With the game heading towards overtime, Walp placed a pass from Jenera Quinones into the Delaware Valley cage for her third goal of the season. It was just the third shot in the half by the Lady Monarchs as Delaware Valley held an 8-3 advantage in the stanza and outshot them, 17-12, for the game.

The Aggies struck first as Bethany Pavlik scored an unassisted tally 10:37 into the contest. However, King's scored two times in a 2:23 span to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. Christine Glenn notched the first tally and then assisted on a goal by Debbie Wychock.

Delaware Valley tied the contest up just 94 seconds into the second half as Holly Rich scored off an assist by Michelle Cernobyl. It remained 2-2 until Walp's heroics. The Aggies' Jackie Deschenes and King's Erin McGinley each had saves in the game.
