RADNOR (PA) – The Delaware Valley College field hockey team improved to 5-1 on the season and did so in exciting fashion as the Aggies went to penalty strokes before earning a 2-1 triumph at Cabrini College
One hundred minutes of action could not determine a winner so the two squads went five rounds of penalty strokes. Both teams had players miss in round one before Delaware Valley's Kate Highberger and Cabrini's Lynda Kaufmann each connected in round two. It remained 1-1 through round three before Bethany Pavlik gave the Aggies a 2-1 advantage. Delaware Valley goalkeeper Jackie Deschenes then stopped Stephanie Campanaro to give Amy Stafford a chance to win the game for the Aggies in round five. The senior captain connected and Delaware Valley had the non-conference win.
The game was scoreless until 9:40 into the second half when
Michelle Cernobyl set-up Stephanie Dec in front of the cage for the senior's fourth goal of the year. However, the Cavaliers (3-4) tied the contest with 6:27 remaining in regulation thanks to Lauren Alessi's unassisted tally.
Delaware Valley held a 26-12 advantage in shots. Deschenes recorded three saves to pick up the win while Caitlin Donahue was credited with 21 stops at the other end.
