CERNOBYL'S LATE TALLY LIFTS AGGIES TO 3-2 VICTORY AT WIDENER

CHESTER (PA) – Michelle Cernobyl notched a hat trick, including the game-winning tally with just 35 seconds left as Delaware Valley College earned a 3-2 victory over host Widener University in a non-conference game.

The win improved the Aggies to 4-1 on the young season and avenged a 2-1 loss at home to the Pride from last season. Widener fell to 1-4.

The Aggies trailed 2-1 before scoring two times in the final 15 minutes. They tied the contest with 14:17 to go as Cernobyl converted a Marissa Di Miero. The game seemed headed to overtime until Danielle Heyne found Cernobyl and the senior and two-time all-conference honoree beat Pride goalkeeper Megan Purcell to complete the hat trick and give her 12 goals on the year.

Widener scored the lone goal of the first half on Natalie Gifford's tally with 12:32 remaining. Cernobyl tied it up in the first nine minutes of the second stanza with Bethany Pavlik earning the assist. The Pride answered five minutes late as Gifford struck again, but the Aggies rallied for the win.

Delaware Valley held a 14-5 advantage in shots. Jackie Deschenes made three saves while Purcell stopped 11 shots in the loss.
