PURCHASE (NY) – The Delaware Valley College field hockey team wrapped up its 2008 campaign with a 2-1 loss to host Manhattanville College in a Freedom Conference game.
The Aggies posted a 10-10 overall record and 1-7 mark in the conference while the Valiants also saw their season come to an end as they went 6-12 and 2-6.
All the scoring took place in the first half with Manhattanville striking for the first two tallies. Alyssa Coughlan connected just 3:18 into the stanza while Lauren Pettoruto added a goal 15 minutes later.
Senior
Michelle Cernobyl pulled Delaware Valley to within one with 2:29 to go in the half off an assist from fellow classmate Lauren Lansberry. The goal was the 23rd of the year for Cernobyl to not only extend her single-season record in that category, but also give her 51 points to break the previous mark of 50 set by teammate Bethany Pavlik last year. The two-time all-Freedom honoree ended a career to remember as the Aggies' all-time leader in both goals (69) and points (155).
Senior Jackie Deschenes played the first half in goal for Delaware Valley and had five saves. Freshman Hollis Hancock took over after the intermission and stopped our shots. Lauren Gagnon and Danielle Scicutella combined for seven saves for the Valiants.
