WILKES-BARRE (PA) – Delaware Valley College continued its best start in program history and remained in first place in the Freedom Conference with a 3-2 road triumph over Wilkes University.
The Aggies are now 7-1-1 overall and a perfect 2-0 in the conference. They are 4-0-1 in their last five contests and have already matched their entire win total from last season when they went 7-10-3 and qualified for the fourth and final Freedom postseason spot. The loss dropped the Lady Colonels to 5-6-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Delaware Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to seniors Emily Perryman and Elise Dauber. Perryman scored her first goal of the season off a feed from Dauber with 17:38 remaining in the first half. It stayed that way until nearly 12 minutes into the second stanza when Dauber notched her conference-best 12th goal of the season.
Wilkes cut the lead in the half with a Kary Fissel tally with 22:55 remaining. However, another Aggie senior came through to regain a two-goal lead as Nicki Martini's unassisted goal with 9:09 to go was her third of the year. The Lady Colonels' Allyssa Kelley made things interesting with her tally with 6:21 left, but the Aggies shut them down for their to spoil Wilkes' Homecoming.
Delaware Valley held a 15-12 advantage in shots. Senior Cortney Bower made seven stops in the victory.
