PURCHASE (NY) – Manhattanville College received goals from three different players as the defending Freedom Conference champion Valiants earned a 3-1 victory over visiting Delaware Valley College.
Manhattanville improved to 7-8 overall and 2-2 in the conference. The Aggies, who entered the Middle Atlantic Regional rankings (10th) for the first time in program history earlIier in the week, dropped its second straight contest as they fell to 9-3-1 overall and 3-2 in the Freedom.
The Valiants took a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by Dawn Belonick (7:33) and Bailey Flood (33:33). Delaware Valley cut that in half with 32:22 remaining in the contest as Emily Perryman was taken down in the box and a penalty kick was awarded. Nicki Martini blasted the ball past Ali Bromson for her fourth goal of the season.
However, Lisa Rill regained the two-goal advantage for Manhattanville as she scored off a Holly Nonis assist with 22:10 to go. The Valiants held advantages of 13-8 in shots and 3-0 in corners. Bromson and Maureen Hickey combined for four saves in the win while Cortney Bower stopped five shots for the Aggies.
