DELVAL FALLS 2-0 TO PRESEASON FAVORITE EASTERN

ST. DAVIDS (PA) – Just hours after earning a spot on the regional rankings for the first time in program history, Delaware Valley College hit the road and suffered a hard-fought, 2-0 loss to Freedom Conference preseason favorite Eastern University.

The Aggies, who are 10th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Middle Atlantic Region, saw their seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1) come to an end as they fell to 9-2-1 overall and 3-1 in the Freedom. The Eagles improved to 7-5 overall, 3-0 and tied for first in their first year in the conference.

The game was scoreless for more than 82 minutes before Eastern struck twice for the win. Ashley Hackman gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead with 7:57 remaining off an assist from Jill DiRenzo. The duo then combined for an insurance tally as DiRenzo scored off a Hackman feed with 3:35 to go.

Eastern outshot Delaware Valley, 18-4, while the Aggies held a 4-2 advantage in corners. Amanda Daveler stopped one shot for the shutout while Cortney Bower notched eight saves for Delaware Valley.
