DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley field hockey team battled back from a three-goal deficit with a pair of second-quarter goals, but the Aggies could not complete the comeback as Drew held on for a 4-2 victory.
Drew established control early, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the opening quarter while holding the Aggies without a shot. The Rangers extended their advantage early in the second quarter, converting a penalty corner to make it 3-0.
DelVal quickly shifted the momentum, earning three penalty corners over a two-minute span.
Kylie Conley and
Caylen Taylor each fired off shots during the opportunities, but neither found the back of the cage.
The Aggies continued to press and found their breakthrough just 20 seconds later.
Maggie Fijal controlled the ball along the right side before sending a pass across the front of the Rangers' goal.
Darby Rusk redirected the feed into the cage to put DelVal on the board, 3-1.
Just three minutes later, the Aggies struck again. Following another penalty corner,
Lillian Plank collected the ball and pushed it back to inserter
Caylen Taylor. Taylor fired a shot through the defense and into the cage, cutting the deficit to one at 3-2.
DelVal continued to battle as the second quarter wound down, but Drew's defense held off the Aggies' attack. The Rangers then converted one of four penalty corners in the closing minutes of the quarter to restore their two-goal advantage and ultimately seal the 4-2 victory.
DelVal returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 3, for its first MAC Freedom contest of the season, hosting Misericordia on Robert A. Lipinski Field at 3 p.m.
