DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Delaware Valley women's soccer created early chances but was unable to find the back of the net, falling to Marymount University, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.
Gianna Grassifulli sent a shot wide before putting another on goal just seconds later in the second minute. Dekota Barthold made a save in the 12th minute and another five minutes later before adding three more stops in quick succession. Marymount continued to pressure the Aggies and eventually found the back of the net in the 37th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Saints kept DelVal pinned in its defensive end and got one more shot off before halftime, but it sailed wide left.
Barthold made another save early in the second half before Abby Foley earned a corner kick for the Aggies. DelVal followed with two shots that went wide. In the 60th minute, Kieran Gilligan received a yellow card after fouling a Marymount player. The Saints capitalized on the ensuing set piece, doubling their lead with a goal by Blanco in the 69th minute. Grassfulli got another shot off for DelVal, but it went wide. With nine minutes remaining, Marymount added a third goal when an attempted clearance by the Aggies resulted in an own goal, sealing the 3-0 victory.
Following the loss, the Aggies fall to 2-4 overall. DelVal is next in action on Wednesday, September 30, when it travels to Alvernia University.
