DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Delaware Valley women's soccer scored once in the second half but was unable to find the equalizer, falling to Immaculata, 2-1, Monday afternoon.
The Aggies had good possession early and got the first shot of the game from Gianna Grassifulli, but it went wide right in the 10th minute. The Mighty Macs then found a groove with a series of shots, but Dekota Barthold made back-to-back saves. In the 24th minute, a nice passing play set up McGee alone in front of the keeper, and she scored to put Immaculata up 1-0. Right off the kickoff, Immaculata earned a corner and scored off the set piece, with Yackel finding the back of the net just 52 seconds after the first goal. Barthold held off the Mighty Macs after the second goal with two more saves. DelVal got into the offensive zone but was unable to get a shot off, heading into halftime down 2-0.
Fouls on DelVal led to two shots on goal from the Mighty Macs, but Barthold was there to stop both in the opening eight minutes of the second half. Jarleny Aguilar-Acuna was fouled, and off the resulting free kick from 30 yards out, Alexa DelGiudice picked the top-right corner to score her fourth goal of the season in the 57th minute. The Mighty Macs responded with a pair of shots on goal from distance, but Barthold made both saves to bring her total to eight. Immaculata continued to pressure as the minutes passed, forcing more saves from Barthold, who finished with 12 on the afternoon. Repici looked to add another goal in the 88th minute on a breakaway, but her shot went wide after she got too far outside the net.
Following the loss, the Aggies fall to 2-3 on the season. DelVal is next in action on Saturday, September 26, at Marymount University.
