DOYLESTOWN, Pa – The Delaware Valley men's soccer team ends scoreless with Eastern Wednesday night.
The Aggies and Eagles played a tightly contested first half, with both defenses keeping the opposing attack off the scoreboard. Eastern generated several quality chances, but Delaware Valley goalkeeper Nick Becker was up to the task. Becker finished the opening half with multiple saves to keep the match level at 0-0. DelVal also created opportunities in the first 45 minutes. Roy Henener had an attempt saved by Eastern goalkeeper in the 20th minute, while Elijah Purtle and Josh Difillipo also tested the Eagles' keeper late in the half. The teams entered halftime at 0-0.
The second half continued with both sides exchanging chances. Karl Kowula forced another save from Michael Arcuri early in the half, while Eastern continued to pressure Becker's goal. Becker made important stops on attempts from more of Eastern's players helping the Aggies preserve the shutout. Yellow card was given to Easterns Cullen Visscher at the 78th minute. DelVal had another opportunity in the 79th minute when Amos Debah fired a shot toward the bottom right corner, but a save was made. Eastern continued to push in the closing minutes, but Becker turned away an other attempt was made for a shot from Eastern in the last 81st minute and the Aggie defense help firm through the final whistle.
Neither team was able to score so the match ends in a draw. Following the draw the Aggies move to 0-0-1 to start their season. Next up they play Albright on the road on Saturday September 5th at 3:00 p.m.
