READING, Pa. – Amos Debah netted a goal in the 69th minute to lift Delaware Valley men's soccer over Albright, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon.
Samuel Kallefors and Karl Kowula got early shots off, but both sailed wide before Kowula put one on goal that was stopped. Derian Wubbenhorst then had a chance off a corner kick, but his shot was also turned away by Lawry in the eighth minute.
Later, in the 28th minute, Roy Hevener was stopped twice before Nick Becker was tested for the first time and made the save for the Aggies. The final chance of the first half came when Kaellfors had a shot stopped following a corner kick. Lawry made six total saves for the Lions through the opening 45 minutes.
Albright had the first scoring chances of the second half, sending a pair of shots wide following a corner kick in the 53rd minute. The Aggies then earned three consecutive corner kicks but were unable to get a shot off before Albright's Garnett was dealt a yellow card.
After a handful of substitutions, Debah found the back of the net to break the scoreless tie in the 69th minute, with Hevener providing the assist. It was Debah's first goal of the season.
The Lions tried to respond with a pair of corner kicks, but Becker held strong, stopping a shot from Velazquez in the 72nd minute. Ten minutes later, Zydan Stewart sent a shot wide as the Lions put together a final push. Roe then missed the cage before Serrano tested Becker, and Devito sailed a shot wide in the final minute.
Becker earned his first win of the season as the Aggies improve to 1-0-1. DelVal returns home on Wednesday, September 9, to host Gwynedd Mercy at 7 p.m.
