DOYLESTOWN, Pa- The Delaware Valley men's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory over Lehman College on Saturday night.
Lehman struck first in the seventh minute when Abubakar found the back of the net following a pair of early saves by Delaware Valley goalkeeper Aiden Lane. The Aggies responded with pressure of their own, as Elijah Purtle forced a save in the 22nd minute before Roy Hevener sent a shot just over the goal moments later.
DelVals persistence paid off in the 28th minute when Zydan Stewart leveled the match, putting the Aggies on the board. Just moments later, Gianluca D'Alterio gave DelVal the lead, finishing off a combination involving Stewart and Karl Kowula to make it 2-1. Lane kept Lehman off the Board for the remainder of the half, making another save as the Aggies carried the lead into halftime.
Delaware Valley continued to create chances early in the second half, with Hevener forcing a save in the 51st minute before firing another attempt just minutes later.
Lehman applied pressure in the second half, but Lane turned away another shot in the 64th minute to keep the Aggies advantage. The Aggies defense continued to hold strong, limiting the Lightenings opportunities down the stretch. Lehman put three shots toward the goal in the final 15 minutes, but none found the back of the net as the Aggies held on for the 2-1 victory.
With the win, Delaware Valley improves to 4-1-1 overall. The Aggies will return to action Tuesday, September 22nd at Cairn University at 7p.m.
