Baseball Falls 9-7 to PSU Abington

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - Penn State Abington erased a five-run deficit with a late offensive surge to defeat Delaware Valley, 9–7, on Wednesday.

Delaware Valley came out aggressively in the first inning, using back-to-back sacrifice flies from Braedyn Kormanic and Nathan Fisher to take a 2–0 lead after doubles by Gavin Migliori and Liam Martin. The Aggies added to their advantage in the second, scoring three more runs. Daniel Murphy delivered an RBI single, and Kormanic reached on an error that brought home two more, extending the lead to 5–0.

Penn State Abington got on the board in the bottom half of the second with an RBI single from Salsbery, but Delaware Valley responded with a steady middle innings performance. Jared Ecenroad drove in a run with a double in the fifth, and Migliori added a solo home run in the sixth to push the lead to 7–2.

From there, momentum shifted. Penn State Abington chipped away with a sacrifice fly in the sixth and a two-run seventh inning highlighted by Bauers' RBI single, cutting the deficit to 7–5.

The turning point came in the eighth. With two outs, Penn State Abington strung together four consecutive hits. Incollingo tied the game with a two-run single, Bauers followed with an RBI single to give his team the lead, and Horvath added another run-scoring hit to cap a four-run inning and make it 9–7.

Delaware Valley threatened in the ninth, loading the bases after a walk, single, and hit-by-pitch, but Handfield struck out two batters to end the game and secure the save.

Penn State Abington totaled 14 hits in the comeback, led by Bauers' four-hit, three-RBI performance and Incollingo's three-hit, two-RBI effort. Horvath also contributed two RBIs. For Delaware Valley, Migliori paced the offense with two hits, including a home run, while Kormanic drove in three runs.

After building an early lead, Delaware Valley was unable to hold off Penn State Abington's late rally, as the home team completed the comeback with a decisive eighth inning.

The Aggies return home to continue conference play this weekend against Lebanon Valley College on Friday, April 10th, at 3:30pm.
