Eastern jumped out early and never let up, pulling away late to secure a decisive win.
The Eagles struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on early baserunners as Matos delivered a two-run single to make it 2-0. Delaware Valley answered immediately in the second, using aggressive baserunning to tie the game.
Matteo Viola stole home and
Eli Scott followed with an RBI groundout, evening things at 2-2.
Eastern regained the lead in the fourth on an RBI single from Bamesberger, and while Delaware Valley briefly tied it again in the fifth on
Nathan Fisher's sacrifice fly, that was as close as it would get. Eastern took control in the bottom half of the inning, scoring twice with the help of defensive miscues to go ahead 5-3.
The game broke open in the sixth and seventh innings. Eastern plated three runs in the sixth, highlighted by another RBI from Matos and continued pressure on the bases. In the seventh, the Eagles put the game out of reach with a five-run outburst, with key RBI hits from Gonzalez, Kozlusky, Â Meehan, and Heuer.
Eastern finished with 15 hits and 13 runs, consistently applying pressure through both contact hitting and aggressive baserunning. Kozlusky scored four times, while Matos and Heuer combined for five RBIs.
Delaware Valley collected 10 hits in the loss, with
Jared Ecenroad leading the way with three hits. Kormanic added two doubles, and the Aggies showed flashes offensively early, but defensive errors and an inability to limit innings proved costly.
The Aggies pick up conference play this weekend against Arcadia on Friday, April 17th at 3:30pm in Glenside.
