READING, Pa. – A six-run sixth inning proved to be the difference as Delaware Valley rallied from an early deficit and held off a late push to defeat Alvernia, 10–9.
Alvernia jumped out early, scoring two runs in the first on a sacrifice fly from Ivery and adding another in the second on an RBI double from Hansen to take a 3–0 lead.
DelVal got on the board in the third with a sacrifice fly from Nathan Fisher, but Alvernia extended its advantage in the fifth. A two-run sequence highlighted by an RBI double from Ivery and a run-scoring single from Woodring pushed the lead to 6–1.
The Aggies responded with a decisive sixth inning. Fisher was hit by a pitch and Matteo Viola followed with a walk to start the rally. Andrew Cullinan drove in a run with a single, and Kody Boyer added another RBI knock to cut the deficit to 6–3. After a walk loaded the bases, Gavin Migliori delivered the key swing of the game, ripping a bases-clearing double down the left field line to tie the game. Liam Martin followed with an RBI single to give DelVal a 7–6 lead.
Delaware Valley added insurance in the seventh as Daniel Murphy doubled to right center, bringing home two runs to extend the lead to 9–6.
Alvernia chipped away with a run in the bottom half of the seventh, but DelVal answered in the ninth when Andrew Cullinan scored on an error to make it 10–7.
The Golden Wolves mounted a final push in the ninth, scoring two runs on a single and a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to one, but Cullinan entered on the mound and recorded the final out to secure the save.
Migliori led the offense with three RBIs, while Martin finished with three hits and an RBI. Boyer added two hits and a run driven in, and Murphy contributed a two-RBI double in the middle innings. Cullinan played a key role on both sides, scoring three runs, driving in one, and earning the save.
Pat Barrett earned the win in relief with two innings of work, helping stabilize the game after the early deficit.
The Aggies pick up conference play on Friday on the road at FDU-Florham in Madison, New Jersey at 3:30pm.
